Welcome to our fragrance tutorial series! As the top fragrance supplier in Manila, the Grasse Fragrance team gets a lot of questions about perfume making. Here, we’ll teach you how to start your own perfume business with our tips and tricks. For this post, let’s take a look at how fragrance oils should be handled.
Hello, perfume enthusiasts! If you’re interested in perfume making, then we have to start with the basics. More often than not, perfume gets its scent from a highly concentrated substance called fragrance oil, which you probably already refer to as “fragrance” in short. There are fruity scents, floral scents, citrus scents, and more––but before you go stocking up on your favorites from your fragrance supplier, you need to know what perfume bottles to store them in.
That’s right: storing your fragrance oils properly is just as crucial as picking the right fragrances for your customers. These are sensitive products that can last longer with better care. And aside from the type of perfume bottle, the storage environment matters a lot too. So you can get started, here are some tips on how and where to keep your fragrance oils:
1. Store your fragrance oils in cooler environments. According to experts, the best temperature to keep scents fresh for as long as possible is between 15°C to 25°C.
2. As much as possible, avoid rapid changes in the temperature of the environment you stored your fragrance oils in. If you simply need to move your fragrances to a new storage location with a different temperature, make sure that the temperature change is minimal, or oxidation may occur. This would change the color and scent of your oils.
3. Keep your fragrance oils in a dark place away from sunlight. It also helps to place oils in dark-colored perfume bottles, usually those which have an amber or cobalt tint.
4. Use airtight, non-reactive containers. For all scents, glass perfume bottles are the best material to preserve their quality and freshness, followed by drum and HDPE containers.
These small steps can go a long way in fragrance quality. After all, you’d only want the best for your prospective customers. Whether it’s managing the room temperature or choosing the correct bottle from your fragrance supplier, know that your careful efforts will help make your perfume products a hit.
